In order to qualify to take the MA examination, the candidate must be 18 years of age or older, show proof of completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or show proof of employment performing MA procedures under MD supervision.

Prior to taking the MA examination, the candidate must complete a comprehensive online MA review course, that helps refresh knowledge and cover all covered topics to prepare for the national certification examination. The MA review course is 100 % online, designed to be taken at your own pace and accessible 24/7/365.

For those candidates who hold an active certification no additional testing is required. Renewal must be submitted prior to certification expiration. If the certification is more than 90 days expired, the candidate must retake the MA certification examination.

For all candidates renewing on time, NPCE requires 6 CEUs in MA every two years. If the technician has completed CEU courses through their employer or professional association, those credits may be provided to NPCE prior to renewal (attestation form).

6 CEU courses are included with the renewal of the MA certification through NPCE at no additional cost and must be completed online prior to receiving their certification for those individuals who have not completed the CEU requirements.

If you are a student or employee of a partnered school or employer, please refer to the organization guidelines for taking the NPCE certification examination. Your instructor or employer will submit all your credentials to NPCE. After reviewing your paperwork, you will receive an email to access Canvas Instructure to access your study guide and take the proctored examination online. Refer to your employer or instructor on process to change your name or receive an additional copy of your certification if lost.
